DP10.11 VI and Plug-In Issues

Post by HCMarkus »

Thought I'd start a list of DP10.11 compatibility issues I have discovered. Although DP10.11 has been working well for me overall I have found two to date:

***

Altiverb
Changing DP's differ size requires one to re-instantiate Altiverb. Best way is to go to Effect Chooser in drop down menu and re-select Altiverb. Current impulse response is retained.

RESOLVED
Updater available since yesterday (April 9, 2020) on AudioEase's site. Installer now works and Altiverb survives buffer size change in DP; no more need to re-load the plugin.

***

Wallander WIVI Band

RESOLVED
Arne at Wallander got me the latest version (2.39) which works well with DP10.11 with one exception, which can easily be worked around by simply adding a DP MIDI plugin that reassigns AfterTouch messages to a CC (I used #4) for Vibrato for the WIVI instruments. AfterTouch does not work as a controller for WIVI Band vibrato. You can reassign a CC to vibrato within WIVI Band.

I am very happy to be able to continue to use WIVI Band with DP10.11. I have always enjoyed the superb playability of the instruments; when using them, I feel organically connected to the sound, so unlike most sample-based VIs. And this VI is not at all expensive. If you've never tried Breath Control, WIVI Band offers a great introduction at a very modest price.

***

So far, everything else seems good here... All NI, Spectrasonics, Ivory, Waves, UA, Antares AT (auto mode), Cytomic, Eventide, Soundtoys, iZotope

Please feel free to add to the list; be sure to include your system info and to notify MOTU and the VI/Plug-In manufacturer.

There's definitely a problem with SampleTank 4, which is consuming vast amounts of resources, even when it's not doing anything! I'm at the very beginning of a project with, so far, 3 VIs running: ST4 and 2 instances of UVI Workstation, and a few tracks assigned to those instruments. I have very simple MIDI (notes only, no continuous data) in one track only, playing a UVI instrument and the Effect Performance window shows ST4 almost all the way across. The UVI that's playing is about 20% at most, as I'd expect. There's a similar effect on the 'Pre gen' bar, which is well over 50% up if ST is enabled, but if I disable ST it's barely above 0. And I repeat, ST ain't doin' nothing!

If I record-enable an ST track it's even worse - unusably so: the 'Real time' bar fills right up into the red and I start getting crackling, stuttering and slowdowns almost immediately. And note, I'm not actually putting DP into record, just playback!

In the past, odd problems with DSP have been fixed with a restart, but not this time. There's another issue with 10.11, but that doesn't belong in this thread.

Each instance uses one core only. To balance the load among the cores, create a separate instance for each VI. See if that helps.

That's pretty much how it is now - as I said I've just started this project and there's almost nothing going on yet (there never will be much: it's a short solo guitar piece, for which I'll use a separate track for each string. which has worked well for me in the past).

But as with the problem I raised in another thread, I really shouldn’t have to change tried and trusted methods, should I?

I raised a TechLink with MOTU support, and apparently there are definitely issues with IK products in the AU versions. The guy told me to disable all AU IK plugs and enable the VST2 (not VST3) equivalents. So far this seems to work, but I haven’t done any heavy lifting with it yet - and probably won’t for a while. It's still fairly heavy on the Effect Performance and Real time displays, but nothing's gone red yet, at least!

Just got to this today... AudioEase site reports as follows when I tried to download the latest version:
The latest Altiverb 7.4.1 installer has some problems, this is why version 7.3.6 is now back online until we have addressed this issue.
So, we wait!

Just to add to the list...
EastWest Play is working O.K. but causes numerous crashes for me.
I no longer trust sessions with it.
I hit save every time I do anything.
Feels like the good old days.
All is well
