Syncing DP audio to Videos in Quicktime

Post by blazingrythm »

Hello all,
I recently shot a video of me playing drums with my iPhone 5 and simultaneously recorded the drums with 8 tracks. When I opened the project for that I imported the video successfully and aligned the audio portion with the video.
It all went beautifully and I was pleased with myself but when I bounced to disk selecting the Quicktime format, the video playback staggered and then appeared to be in slow motion and was out of sync with the music. It worked fine in DP and VLC but in Quicktime, iTunes, and iPhoto it wasn't synced properly.
I tried posting it to Facebook with fingers crossed but was unsuccessful.
Motu tech support had no answers for me to remedy this problem so I turn to you, my brothers and sisters.
Thanks in advance.
Robert Williams

Are you still on DP 7.02 as listed in your signature or are you using 7.24? 7.24 is a free update and first thing I'd try is update to the latest version of DP7 just in case there was an issue with that.

If the movie plays ok in VLC, that tells me the movie is basically in sync. The symptoms of staggering and out of sync in iTunes or Quicktime suggests that the movie is in a format these other apps are having problems with.

Try converting the movie to a different format and see how it plays in Quicktime. I use Handbrake for movie conversion. I think VLC also offers export and conversion options.

Oh, Hi Dave, Thanks I'll try that. The 30 fps I have it at doesn't affect it does it?

I opened it in VLC and went to the drop down menu and selected Convert/Stream and then to the next drop down menu and didn't see anything resembling Handbrake. Could it be called something else in that list?
Convert/Stream was the only option I found related to converting from the main menu.

Handbrake is a different program:

http://handbrake.fr/

I use it for video conversion.

No I don't think the frame rate is the problem. I think it's more likely to be the video codec.

Ahhh I see you're on DP 8.05 as well now. Thanks for updating your sig. It's a good idea to do that from time to time. It helps other users help troubleshoot more effectively. :)

Iskysoft is also a great (paid) video converter but not for DVDs. The new version of Mac the Ripper is best for that with save and convert.

I downloaded VLC just to check to see if the DP audio was successfully synced with the video and it was.
I then downloaded Handbrake and in that program I was able to convert it to be compatible with Facebook.
For some reason QuickTime, iTunes and iPhoto caused the video portion to playback in jerky slow motion.

(Off Topic)

After that my computer went screwy. I ended up having it repaired by Apple and they replaced the logic board and took out my 16GB ram and replaced it with 8GB for a total of $330.00 (ouch!).

They said that the 16GB RAM had issues and that my Macbook Pro could not accommodate 16GB.
Also that the 16GB may have had something to do with the logic board getting hosed.
I'm looking into that and plan to call Apple's tech line to verify that after I do a bit of research.

I have a MacBook Pro with 2 GHz Intel Core i7 from late 2011.
Anyone with knowledge about this, please weigh in.
