PCI to PCIe adapter for a PCI-424 card

Post by gibsonl6s »

Hello

I have "upgraded" my old g4 to a late 2005 G5.

Now I have to upgrade the PCI-424 card to a PCI-express one.

And today as I was looking for a firewire card I saw this.

Do you think this will work? It's a pci to pcie adapter:

best regards.

I certainly have no idea. Seems like it would be a real gamble. I wouldn't chance it myself.

I had the same question a couple of years ago, and saw this adaptor, but from the discussions (you can find by googling), it looks like it is only a mechanical adaptor, and doesn't do any conversion. I didn't go any further with it, but why not ask MOTU if it will connect a PCI card to a PCIe bus? (It sure doesn't look like it will.)

AFAIK the PCIe is for Intel Macs and won't work in a G5. You need the PCI-X.

Unless you have one of the last G5 models that had PCIe slots.

You can go to magma.com which is very expensive.
Or this one that I've been using for 2 or 3 years now:
http://virtuavia.eu/shop/pci-express-to ... 29809.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I use it with UAD -1 card. I was going to use it with PCI424, SCSI and UAD,
but I found out later that its power supply can only support one card. :?
I've heard that they redesigned it already. Mine is version 1. 8)
