Digital Performer MIDI question

I use Digital Performer 3.11, I have Mac OS X.3 AND OS 9.2.1, so if I want to make music I boot up my computer in OS 9 (irrelevant)...my problem is:

With digital performer 3, the sample information is stored in the keyboard I use (korg n264). What instrument comes out of channel one, two, etc... depends on what my keyboard is set to. For instance:

channel: Korg n264-1: (then is has the notes that should be played in the graphic editor).

Channel: Korg n264-2: (more notes that should be played on this channel)

As you can see, it doesn't matter what the patch/sample is set to in Digital performer...my keyboard is what determines the sample or patch being played! If I want to make MIDI files, I need the patch information to be saved and stored IN DIGITAL PERFORMER, not on my keyboard! The only thing my keyboard will do is play the notes...the instrument that plays the notes should be altered in digital performer! I do this because, if if I try and save a digital performer file as a MIDI file, all the computer has is the notes that should be played! It has NO PATCH INFORMATION. That's all on my keyboard! So how do I configure digital performer to internally save all patch information on the computer and not the keyboard? I REALLY hope someone can answer this, so i can start making music sometime! Not to be a jerk, but this is very basic and covered in the manual. Here's a hint ... take a look at your Free MIDI setup.

Make sure you're using "default patch" , not just the column that says patch.

I know, I realise it's a newbie question...but I have to learn somehow...I do not have the manual (unfortunately) because a friend installed it onto this computer, along with Photoshop, etc...I payed for it, but he has the software, and, the manuals. I am sorry for being so obnoxiously ignorant, but I can't find out how. My configuration is fine, the keyboard is transmitting the data just fine into my computer. My problem is, the patch information is coming from my keyboard, and I want it to come from my computer...like I said in the last post very thoroughly. Can someone please answer my question? I have been wondering this for around a week now, I want to get started making music...

EDIT: Now I realise there was another post...the "default patch" thing just shows my keyboard's factory-set samples. No MIDI patches...can you be more thorough?

Great, I tried the "default patch" thing you gave me, and I think I'm making progress...but instead of using the General MIDI patches which I select, it instead goes to the corresponding number of combination on my keyboard! For instance:

General MIDI Clavichord: It plays the SEVENTH combination on my synthesizer (korg n264) because the MIDI clavichord is the eigth patch...kind of weird...what's the soloution to this?

IMPORTANT EDIT: Well, after a test run, it seems my patch information is still not saving. The patch information is still coming from my keyboard, the only difference now is that when I select a patch from the "default patch" menu, it just goes there on my keyboard...it's sort of a shortcut for my keyboard. That stinks. It's still not saving patch information in Digital Performer (it's saving is where? my keyboard.) Soloution? PLEASE? Sorry I've double posted and edited a bunch...

Hate to be a sourpuss here (or not) but if you paid for it, the manual is yours, not your "friend's".

I agree. You need to have a manual, especially as a new user. If it is true that you paid (full price) for the software then you own the manual as well. If you made some sort of "deal" with this person-then you are in a tough position. Newbie questions are okay, but ones that are extremely clear and simple to figure out by just reading a few pages will get you some snide and sarcastic responses.

I agree, that's what I was implying before. If you paid for it, why don't you have the manual? Whay did you friend install the software? If you have trouble installing software, good luck with DP.

Also newbie questions are totally cool, but something so basic as this is covered in the beginning of the manual.

I'll get myself an adobe pdf manual, jeez! I know how to install software, but he did it for me anyway, he has the CD! Can someone answer my question?

Sounds like you're a Korg guy yourself! And that's good, for me. So, I set my keyboard to MIDI DUMP, I select "all data." There is an "OK?" button that if I press it proccesses data for like 2 minutes then says "completed." On digital performer (3.11) the closest thing I could find to SysEX receieve was "recieve synth." What order do I do what? And if I am doing a wrong command, can you point out to me where SysEX receive is? Thanks, I hope for a reply!

Just record it to a track.

And tell your friend to give you your CD and manual back. You paid good money for it.

By record, do you mean like you would with a wav/mp3 file, audio record, or just slap it on one layer of MIDI, I don't understand this. And by "track" do you mean a MIDI channel/layer? And how do I do this step? I have no clue how to execute a MIDI dump, and assume I have little to nil knowledge of sequencing vocabulary...sorry to make this so complicated
