Installing DP 4.6 does not install

I recently installed DP 4.5 on to a Powerbook G4 running OS 10.4.11
all is OK••¦ Next I downloaded the 4.61 updater (download OK) next I run the installer and dialogs report installation successful as it creates a DP 4.61
folder in the applications folder. I open the 4.61 folder and the icon for the app is a blank vertical rectangle. I click on it and the Script Editor opens.
Exchanging email with MOTU Techsupport , what finally worked was creating
a new user account under System Preferences. I was not informed why this was necessary••¦ Additionally, after sending the install log to a UNIX jockey type friend , he reported that the log that was generated was useless,
(I'm not a code head - I wouldn't know)
The subsequent new problem generated is that if I toggle the user account
that allows 4.61 to operate properly all the rest of my prefs
e.g. net access via Safari are rendered inoperable. I'm not in any kind of
multi user config on this machine so the UNIX flexibility in this regard I don't need and only confuses me. Any Suggestions ? TIA Schweats

you say a powerbook and tiger. Are you sure? DP4.5 will not work on intel macs or Leopard

No ••¦ it is NOT a MacBook Pro MacIntel machine.
It is a Powerbook G4 ••¦ 1.5ghz PPC running OS 10.4.11

Have you tried re-downloading the installer and re-applying it? Did you download it from the MOTU site?

About half a dozen times ; with each time telling me that the installation was successful

Yes••¦ and the last advice was to simply create a new user account.
This advice worked but makes no sense at all. ( I know I'm looking for the impossible trying to equate sense and computers) If I am using my primary user acct. that is my admin acct. to install DP 4.5 and all is well, then , download DP 4.61 with this same acct. and that the download and subsequent install is successful per dialog box, then why would DP 4.61 not be available••¦ It is available ONLY when a new user acct. is created.
In summary , DP 4.5 is under Primary User/admin acct. and DP 4.61 is under a new acct. titled 'Test' ••¦ and this makes no sense to me at all.

Sorry. I should have read your initial post a bit slower. My bad.

WHAT IF... you went to the next higher version (4.72?) Is that possible? Any reason you specifically want 4.61?

I know that doesn't solve the current problem, but I believe you can upgrade past 4.61 w/o a fee to MOTU (if that is an issue).

You might also try booting in Safe mode (holding the shift key at boot up) and applying the installer again... but you know, I'm not even sure 4.61 is compatible with your OS. The fact that 4.5 functions doesn't mean 4.61 will. For example, I have CS 2 which worked great with Leopard right off the bat. Yet CS 3 required patches to work (if I am remembering that correctly).

I cannot see anything on the MOTU site but DP 5 updates, but maybe they are simply keeping earlier ones from my view as I am using the current version. Maybe you can see the 4.61 update and what OS version it claims to work in.

MLC, DP4.61 should run perfectly on that machine under 10.4.11. I've been running it on my 1.5 ghz PB under Tiger since Feb 2006 and on my G5 since 2005 or 2006... whenever 4.61 became available. And I am running under 10.4.10 right now.

4.61 is the last version of DP4 before it became DP5.
