Quad core and DP?
Anyone hear whether DP will take advantage of the newer Apple Quad core cpus? I'm trying to decide whether I should get into one of them or go fo a dual.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Yes it does use all 8 cores, but from posts that I have read there seem to be other issues that prevent the performance from being double that of the 4-core machines. I just bought a 2.66 dual chip (so 4 cores) and DP seems really happy with it.

Dual 2.0g G5, 7g ram, 1 SATA drive, 1 IDE drive, Duende, Liquid Mix, UAD-1,

MacBook Pro 2.13 3G ram, ext FW drive

I'd say that the 4-cores are a safe bet.
DP seems to be a little more picky about how things are done on the MacPro, but at its best, what can be done with DP on the MacPro is amazing.
The MacPro and DP 5.1x just need some extra TLC for the sake of stability, but UB code is still a little on the young side.
That should be no reason to fear, though.

Actually, I had a question about the my MacPro dual core 2.66 and DP.
Does the latest version of DP support all 4 processors in a MacPro?
The processor utility in DP doesn't have the dual or quad processor meters,
so I can't really tell. I could figure it with other utilites, I guess, but I never heard anything official about it. THanks in advance.

All cores are fully functional under DP. I have a 3G Quad and the cores share the load quite admirably. Often, the hits max out well under 50% and never all at once. Seems like the processing is being fairly evenly distributed.RMD Music wrote:Actually, I had a question about the my MacPro dual core 2.66 and DP.

The 2.66 is the exact same as the 3G with the only difference being the .34G in CPU clock. Even with the 8-Cores, DP is making use of all available resources, so you'd be in good shape in that department.

UB= Universal Binary.rosindabow wrote:Thanks for the responses. Sorry to be such a dolt, but what does "UB" stand for?
It's Apple-speak for any application bundle or executable file which will run natively on both the PPC and Intel platform so that two separate versions of every application to be installed on either computer would not have to be created.
