Re: MILAN integration for MOTU AVB
My Bad, I misunderstood your query. That’s a tough one to answer as I haven’t seen any documentation as to how MOTU implements AVB in their devices. XILINX (AVNU co founder) now AMD, has some documentation of how they use their FPGA’s in AVB designs. RME uses firmware updates to modify their AVB dev...

Re: MILAN integration for MOTU AVB
MILAN = Media Integrated Local Area Network
Based on AVB
Created by the AVNU Alliance (A consortium of Pro AV companies).
mLAN = Music Local Area Network
Based on FireWire
Created by Yamaha.
Just some general info for the community,

Re: MILAN integration for MOTU AVB
My first question is whether the older MOTU AVB device chipsets support the AAF-PCM stream format, such that AAF-PCM or AMB-24 could be offered as a user selection via a firmware update. Unfortunately No. The older MOTU AVB devices can only support the "legacy" AM8-24 stream format, which...

Re: New 16A interface - is web API still supported?
Do you know if you can use the CueMix Pro app mixer to control input levels, mutes, etc? Does the mixer section work on the older interfaces? I couldn't find any definitive statements that says it's possible but the way the text reads to me appears to imply that, Mixer functionality of previous gen...

Re: New 16A interface - is web API still supported?
Hmmmm... basic device and stream settings. I wish I knew if that meant I could mute/solo inputs or control levels. I guess I'd have to download it and try. Here's some more info from the CueMix Pro section of the user manual (page 49) "If earlier-generation MOTU AVB interfaces are present on t...

Re: New 16A interface - is web API still supported?
Hey all, The screenshot James posted isn’t surprising to me. MOTU states that in order to see older devices in the new CueMix Pro app a stream connection between the new and older devices must be established. (check pages 62 - 63 0f the user manual) If for example you have a mixed network of devices...

Re: MILAN integration for MOTU AVB
Hi All,
Quick FYI ...
The (2025) MOTU 16A can "talk" to MILAN compatible AVB devices via the newer AAF-PCM stream format.
Older MOTU AVB devices are NOT compatible with MILAN as they use the "legacy" AM8-24 stream format.
Blessings,
PhireAlly

Re: New 16A interface - is web API still supported?
Hey Folks, It is correct that the new generation 16A does not have the built-in web server as the older AVB devices did.... However, the new CueMix Pro App can see both old and new devices on the network. Here's MOTU's explanation from the user manual (Page 62)... "Most AVB devices should displ...

Re: New MOTU AVB Interface!! - The 16A
New Cuemix doesn't see my old 16A. Big bummer, that web app really sucks. Then how in the world do you integrate them?!? Point each at blind holes known to be the other? Hi All. The new CueMix Pro can see older MOTU AVB devices .... Here is an excerpt from the User Manual (page 63) "For earlie...

Re: New MOTU AVB Interface!! - The 16A
The old AVB devices report in AudioMIDI as 32 bit streams via USB and TB. I’ll have to hook up via ethernet again and see what it says. Hey Doug I’m not 100% certain but AudioMidi setup could possibly be reporting the DAC streams and not the AVB streams. I’d have to check the Apple AVDECC configura...

Re: New MOTU AVB Interface!! - The 16A
But wait ... There's more
The built-In AVB switch in the (2025) 16A allows for up to 8 devices to be daisy chained !!
That's 7 "hops"
No external AVB switch required.
Sweet !!!

Re: New MOTU AVB Interface!! - The 16A
Found definitive answers to the device compatibility questions. From the MOTU 16A (2025) product page .... Additional features (Excerpt) The new 16A is AVB-compatible with all other MOTU AVB interfaces. Each audio stream can be individually configured between 1-8 audio channels. Supports AAF stream ...

Re: New MOTU AVB Interface!! - The 16A
I see a second Ethernet port on the new. Makes me wonder if it might be possible to daisy chain it with other MOTU AVB interfaces and thus not need to buy an AVB switch if I wanted to integrate it into my 828es + 24Ai setup? The 1st generation MOTU AVB devices use the “legacy” AM824 AVB stream form...

Re: New MOTU AVB Interface!! - The 16A
I wonder if they run cooler than the last generation. The previous generation was vented on the lower portion of the sides. The new generation however, seem to have strategically placed top vents. That possibly could be part of addressing the heat situation. I do have half of a rack space above all...
