Re: 828 MkII Humming!
Sure. Btw other thing I found was that multiple of these interfaces work properly only with external word clock. The manual says the Firewire ASIO driver would distribute the clock, but that simply doesn't work. Everything started working like magic when I bound them to external 96kHz clock.

Re: 828 MkII Humming!
After recapping, I was still annoyed by the rather loud PSU transformers. You could hear the 50Hz hum 10 feet away. I fixed that, by replacing the transformers for closed, potted ones. They are Polish Breve units, TPZ18/2X115/2X6V. They are bit smaller power than originals but seems they are easily ...

Re: 828MkIII: Noise on 2 channels
The Post was very quick, and I got a second FW card.
OMG, it works fine. This is older StarTech FW PCIe card (PEX1394A2V2), with TI chip and PCI-PCIe bridge.
Unbelievable, un-fscking-believable!
So the The VIA direct PCIe does not work!

Trimmer in 828mk2 & 3
Can someone tell what is the function of the big white trimmer in 828mk2 and 3 (at least)
In Mk2 its CR35. As there is no service manual, any info would be appreciated.

Re: 828MkIII: Noise on 2 channels
Also verified on 2nd 828mk2, exactly same issue as in the other mk2. This one has actually rather swollen capacitors. I'll do total electrolytic change for this as well. Firmware upgrade for it was lets say interesting. BTW, how many of these units you can have attached to a single computer? I know ...

Re: How to Update 828 Mk 2 firmware from 1.00 to 1.01
Same here, The instructions are still valid after all these years. I used also Snow Leopard, but I installed it to a "Hackintosh". (A 2012 Intel i7 "Haswell") - bit hacking to get it installed, but no issues at all with the PCI FW card and the firmware upgrading. I guess I'll try...

Re: 828 MK II LEDs crap out..
You can pull the old backlight out as described in many documents. The suitable replacement is a 3mm (not 5mm) "superbright" led, which will actually fit the light guide. There are unused pads there, connect led cathode to "K", and bend it so its shines directly to the backlight ...

Re: 828MkIII: Noise on 2 channels
I investigated this further as I rebuilt an 828MkII as well - it has the same issue! Bit different channels, but in the end same issue. (MkII was like that out of the eBay box, no change after changing all electrolytic caps, including SMD ones.) So I think it has to be something with the Firewire. I...

Re: 828MkIII: Noise on 2 channels
Yeah it sure might be a tough one. I was thinking maybe the ADC has an issue, I might be able to probe that. Or the RAM - its DSP code so it likely uses the same addresses for buffers all the time. A service manual would be nice. I was wondering is there any self-test code I could try? I got two MkI...

828MkIII: Noise on 2 channels
Hi, I tried to restore an 828Mk3. However, I have horrible, I'd say digital noise on ch 4 and ch 8 (I think - anycase 2 channels that are separate) . I tried to oscilloscope the inputs to the ADC, but its all quiet. For the PSU, all the caps have been changed in few years back. It had also bit issue...
