I actually set it up that way because I was using the 8pre on it's own and added the 828 because I had a mic'ed drum kit taking up all of the XLR in's. I just wanted to add some 1/4" inputs for various instruments and the optical connection seemed like the easiest route. I'm definitely not a te...

Thanks... someone else had mentioned buffer size as well. I changed it in Cubase (I'm not sure how to access it anywhere else) as much as I could without too much of a noticeable lag in audio and while the problem seemed to get better for a short time, it returned within a couple of sessions. I'm using an 8Pre with a 828 MK2 attached with an optical cable. The channels on the 828 produce an intermittent crackling noise which if I understand correctly, means that the sample rate isn't synched up to my computer (2012 Macbook pro running Cubase 10.5).
