Re: quad core versus duo core for mostly MIDI work?

Thanks for the reply. The express card question came out of seeing the UAD-2 SOLO/Laptop which is a product that can run plug in effects without taxing the cpu. But, of course the express card slot is only now in the 17" mbp so the ability comes at a price. The 27" quad core iMac seems gre...

quad core versus duo core for mostly MIDI work?

I am considering the purchase of a new mac and see my choices as either convenience (MacBookPro), or features+pricepoint (imac 27" quad core). I currently run an older g4 laptop at home and an imac intel chip at work which does very well with what I throw at it. I'm seeing the future of what I ...

Can't get 1.1, 1.2, oe 1.3 to install on iBook

I have a G4 ibook running mac system 10.4.8. I have Dig Perf 4.6.1 upgraded successfully from the web. I am running MSI 1.0 and would like to upgrade to the latest version. However, when I try to use the installlers for .1, .2, or .3, they installler just spins saying "searching hard disk"...

MSI control panel disapearing act

For starters, I love my MSI. My question though is this... if I accidentally close the instrument control window, how does one get it back? One way is to add another MSI instrument and then one can pick MSI 1 from the little pulldown menu. It may be the most bonehead question ever, but is there anot...

Does anybody love SI?

It's all about context. If you already have alot of the same sounds in other formats, or are looking for a higher end thing, you might be disapointed. but for me, I have found many sounds that I have already used and layered with other sounds it can add some serious depth of character. Also, as usua...

more specifically about quicktime

If an editor sends you a quicktime movie without SMPTE code, will that normally be the same timewise as whatever other file they are using (ie final cut, avid)? So far I've had pretty good luck just writing everything to fit the quicktime file in DP and letting the editor/post people do the rest. I ...

more soundfont info

I have used the DLS music device before, but I am new to the soundfont world. How does it work to use soundfont libraries? Are you driving those sound files with the DLS music device? Are the garage band instruments accesable the same way?

ibook g4 vs pb g4

I am upgrading to a new mac and want a laptop. I found a 14 inch ibook(1.3 GHz) on sale for $799 plus a gig of ram ($255 installed) for a grand total of $1054. Just for reference the 12inch pb(1.5GHz) is $1399 and the 15inch pb(1.67GHz) is $1899 not including the ram. Any opinions on if the differen...

Re: Firewire Drives and MOTU Hardware

If you are using a laptop with one firewire port and two USB 2 ports, obviously you can't use a PCI firewire card. So, any advice on the best way to run an external drive to record audio if your firewire port is already taken up by an audio in card?

Re: OS9 and DP 3.1 Love it!!

I am about to upgrade to a G4 laptop 1.33GHz and I currently run DP 3.11. Will the classic environment in the Mac run 3.11 or will I have to upgrade to 4.5? I probably will anyway, but I'm about to drop a load of cash (for me anyway) and if I can wait, I probably will. Any advice?
