I'm using a WD 3 tb drive as my main drive now. Backup is on a 4 tb Time Machine connected via esata. All seems ok, fwiw.

I believe the latest version will be the best. Not at that computer at the moment.

All I have ever used are the Kensington trackball mouse pro jobs. Got seven of them now. I use them with my left hand even though I'm right handed. And love the three with all the programmable buttons.

Is it USB or serial?

On my 828mk2 and 828mk3 there is a volume knob just above the headphone jack. I use that to adjust the headphone level.
