Re: Rebuilding a studio after the Palisades Fire – Mac, UAD, iLok, etc.

HC, Thanks for the tip about the enclosures. It helps me to clarify the process ahead. When I evacuated, I grabbed a plastic tub full of external drives, and sure enough right at the bottom of it was a Newertech Voyager S3, like the ORICO you recommend: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/U3S3...

Re: Rebuilding a studio after the Palisades Fire – Mac, UAD, iLok, etc.

Question about drive formatting with the newer Macs (should this be a different thread?) – As I take inventory of my existing 2010 Mac Pro setup towards making the transition to the Mac Studio M2, I note that I have 4 HD's mounted inside it: 2 are SSDs (240GB each), 2 are high-capacity 7200RPM. (I s...

Re: Rebuilding a studio after the Palisades Fire – Mac, UAD, iLok, etc.

Fascinating description of how they reverse-engineered the drives. And I like their upgrade philosophy. I don't see the 1TB drive (in the M2 model I ordered) listed in their table. I wonder why. Presumably they're as "slow" as the 512k's? Also, their listed read/write speeds are the same a...

Re: Rebuilding a studio after the Palisades Fire – Mac, UAD, iLok, etc.

Heya James, hope you're well. I was active in this Unicorn world like 20 years ago, then got wrapped with studio and other stuff and kinda weaned off the internet for most purposes. Now I'm forced to start over, so taking the advice of past survivors: don't be shy about asking for help. Thanks for t...

Re: Rebuilding a studio after the Palisades Fire – Mac, UAD, iLok, etc.

Based on your wise counsel, I will be refusing shipment (Apple's choice of method) of the 32/500GB M2, and have instead ordered an 64/1TB. It was almost twice the price, and more than I wanted to spend, but I figure the extra boot drive wiggle room at 1TB will save at least a few installation headac...

Re: Rebuilding a studio after the Palisades Fire – Mac, UAD, iLok, etc.

Yikes, Mike, I just pulled the trigger on an Apple refurb M2 Studio with only 32GB RAM and a 500GB boot drive. They didn't have refurbs available with bigger drives, and I figured 500GB would be enough if I could just tell sample libraries to install themselves on supplemental drives. But suddenly I...

Re: Rebuilding a studio after the Palisades Fire – Mac, UAD, iLok, etc.

Others have used Migration assistant successfully, but I wanted to avoid cruft from my old Mac when building my Mac Studio. Ha, I've never heard that word before, but I know exactly what you mean! I can imagine there might be some small minority of cruft that I'd actually like to perpetuate. Guess ...

Rebuilding a studio after the Palisades Fire – Mac, UAD, iLok, etc.

Hi all, it's been a while.... My system was already long in the tooth when my house and studio burned in January. I managed to evacuate a few key pieces (pre-loaded in the car before I stayed and fought the fire to no avail, except that I did save my neighbors house), but I had hastily grabbed gear ...

Re: FYI...DP 11.01 is out

Thanks, guys. I'll probably give v.11 a try when I get to the right lull in my workflow.

Re: FYI...DP 11.01 is out

Ha! Well, I'm as hoary as anyone! I can confirm that shift-option dragged automation points are 100% constrained (duplicated identically) regardless of track height in DP11.1 - even at "Mini". There's always some undocumented fixes in updates. I guess this was fixed in one of them. Thanks...

Re: FYI...DP 11.01 is out

I appreciate that everyone likes to work how they like to work, but have you considered snapshot automation, and/or option-shift dragging automation data points as workarounds? The problem exists also with option–shift dragging of control points, a method I typically use – then I usually (not alway...

Re: FYI...DP 11.01 is out

Unlike DP, Logic has sticky behavior when you click on an automation line, so it's easy insert identical points. This may be more of a DP feature-request than a bug fix. If it's a feature request, it's been asked for by many folks for over 20 years now (since DP 3). You said it's only an issue at t...

Re: FYI...DP 11.01 is out

What exactly are you doing to add the second automation point? Clicking on the automation line. E.g., if a volume point is at 6 at Bar 20, and I want keep it at 6 for 8 bars till it changes, I'll want to insert another 6 just before bar 28, and another 6 right on bar 28 which, now selected, can be ...

Re: FYI...DP 11.01 is out

Automation control point bug fixed yet? I’ve poked around in Motunation for 45 minutes, without joy (not least because “bug“ is too short to be used as a search term). I don’t see it mentioned on the list of new fixes in DP 11. Since DP 3, when you add a new automation control point at the same valu...

Re: Favorite dynamic EQ plugin?

Thanks, Pencilina. Whatever the merits of other contenders, $29 for Waves' F6 is worth playing with. So I bought it, but still don't have it working. It passes DP's examination, but the window is just blank white. I didn't install the v.13 version because it's specifically listed as requiring a &quo...
