NO ONE has had this issue where MIDI is making a DP project act oddly? All I have to do is plug in the usb MIDI interface and the program goes nuts. The fact that the sequencers don't behave this way with MIDI makes me suspicious.

What are your specs?

When I hooked up my Ultralite Mk3 to my Macbook for the first few times I did not push in the Firewire cable far enough into the FW 400 port on the Macbook.

Also check your computers audio core settings to see if it shows up there and then select it.
