Did you make sure that the "internet connection sharing" on your XP machine is enabled? I think that you should have it set up to share its wireless connection over the ethernet. Then set the Mac to connect to the internet via ethernet (its probably set up this way). You may have to set IP...

For firewire, Metric Halo and RME are also respected and have good drivers, and are supposedly a step up from MOTU in terms of audio quality (I haven't tried them) and price. I would suggest you go to sweetwater's site and browse through their interfaces (firewire or PCI) to see what's out there, th...

I came close to buying an i88x a while ago but didn't because I read similar reports to yours. So its probably the driver. If you ever buy another firewire interface also be wary of anything that is "class-compliant," ie uses the builtin generic coreaudio driver (presonus firebox/firepod, ...

I read somewhere recently (maybe on this site?) that there is an incompatibility between the 16mb raptors and the G5 SATA controller. I think the only solution was to get a SATA card, however you should probably do a search to see if anything more detailed comes up.

Try plugging it into a different computer and seeing what happens. Also see if you can verify it from disk utility.

hope this helps.

Cuemix can only control the routing of inputs back to outputs. This kind of sucks and really should be fixed. What you can do to work around in the meantime (and has been recomended by MOTU while they avoid this issue) is to connect the digital out of your interface to the digital in, have the digit...

I would second the dell recommendation. Apparently many of them use the same panels as the Apple displays and do pretty well against the apples. And they are way cheaper.

If you are on 10.4 you can combine both the Fast Track input and output by creating an "aggregate device." Open Audio MIDI Setup, go to audio menu, open aggregate device editor. Pretty straightforward from there. If you're not on 10.4, I can't help you, although there may be a workaround. ...

Yes - on the back above the main outs there are send outs from each of the pres. Use one of the 1/4" ins as the return. MOTU has labeled pictures on their website under the 828 section, if I recall correctly.

I know a common problem with people using windows and motu firewire interfaces is the firewire chipset. Make sure your firewire card/builtin ports are using a TI (Texas Instruments) chipset, which is what is recommended, as the MOTU interfaces are notoriously picky about this. Another problem is tha...

In my experience using a windows formatted drive to transfer mac files creates problems with the resource fork. This means that information on which program to open it with is lost for dp project files and others that aren't smart. Sometimes the resource fork is transfered as a hidden file which can...

Yes. 48khz is the standard rate for dvds and is also supported by most of the compressed formats, so there isn't much recent gear that can't work at that speed.

Well, you aren't going to get much benefit from running x64 as cubase isn't 64-bit. That could in fact be your problem, although if it is a 64-bit program should still be able to use the motu. But that does suck. Are the firewire card drivers 64-bit? Make sure there isn't some problem with the sampl...

If you want the mixes to be the same, get a headphone splitter (you'll lose some power but it will work although it isn't the ideal situation). If you need different mixes, get a headphone amp and plug a pair of analog outs into it.

People on other forums have been reporting similar problems, though not to the same extent as you, Alan. The problem is with Apple's firewire driver as the problems aren't limited to the firebox but are also found in the edirol interfaces and others that are class-compliant. Basically, apple's gener...
