Re: LP32 alternatives?

The problem with the Digiface is that it is just ADAT. My intent was to use a MOTU Stage B16 on top of that, which means anything that isn't Thunderbolt with AVB is a non-starter. After another four-month wait, Sweetwater is now also saying that it is discontinued. [redacted swearing] I think I'm ab...

Re: Motu AVB & iPad Air M2

Which interface? How are you connecting it to the iPad? If you're connecting by USB, it should work, presumably, because I think most MOTU interfaces are USB-audio-class-compliant. If you're connecting over the network, you should be able to control the interface over the network with an iPad Air (e...

Re: MOTU 16A discontinued?

Again, it was a factory fire that put the AVB line out of business. Same factory provided RME with their Thunderbolt chips, which is why RME no longer has Thunderbolt interfaces either. RME actually blames Intel marking some Thunderbolt chips as EOL. And that's maybe plausible if their hardware doe...

LP32 alternatives?

After almost three months of waiting, I just got the dreaded email from Adorama that my LP32 order has been cancelled because the product is discontinued. So at this point, I'm starting to look for alternatives. My requirements are: 1. Minimum four ADAT inputs (16 channels at 96 kHz) 2. Minimum four...

Re: Sonnet Thunderbolt AVB Adapter and MOTU AVB interfaces

The Apple Thunderbolt Ethernet interface (BCM57762) should be AVB-capable (it's the same PCIe Ethernet chip that Sonnet uses), with the caveat that Apple's adapter forces you to use a chain of dongles, because Apple never spent the hour of engineering time to swap the connector and update their cust...

Re: Firewire 2024: Today's Macs and Sequoia?

That said, Sequoia does still have the FireWire family kext built in... Does that mean that devices that used Apple's firewire drivers will still work? I thought Apple abandoned firewire a couple of OS's ago. Apple removed their FireWire audio driver back in Ventura (macOS 13). That's entirely unre...

Re: Apple Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter and MOTU audio interface dropouts.

There is firmware in the Apple TB2–TB3 adapter. A few websites are recommending that the adapter be plugged into a TB3/4 port during a macOS update so that the adapter firmware updates as well. I could be wrong here, as the only thing I have to go on is iFixIt's teardown, but assuming they didn't m...

Re: Motu M2: Macbook Pro M3 Max crashes after hours of non-usage

I don't see anything to do with MOTU in that crash log. Here are the relevant bits: com.apple.driver.IOSlaveProcessor(1.0)[D401BF31-9BE9-3AC1-9AED-4D1D0B3ADE9C]@0xfffffe001cf45280->0xfffffe001cf46c33 com.apple.driver.RTBuddy(1.0)[CC58D624-557D-30BC-86D5-4AC3CB22E0DD]@0xfffffe001d50c360->0xfffffe001d...

Re: Accessing only one 896mk3HD from multiple firewire Macs ?

Thanks dgatwood last AVB question how is the latency overall i/o ? No idea. I'll find out if as soon as the backordered LP32 actually gets here. 😂 At least in theory, most of the latency should come from the chunk size (buffer size). AVB itself adds only maybe a couple of milliseconds to that. So, ...

Re: Accessing only one 896mk3HD from multiple firewire Macs ?

Yeah, your best bet would probably be to do something like Dante Virtual Soundcard or AVB. https://www.reddit.com/r/audioengineering/comments/uy7lve/avb_allows_two_macs_to_use_the_same_usb_audio/?rdt=52115 AVB requires very specific NICs, unfortunately (like all Thunderbolt, as far as I can tell, s...

Re: Hit or myth? Achieving stability with multiple identical MOTU MIDI interfaces

I'm not a Windows expert, but I assume their device enumeration is at least mostly deterministic, in which case the nondeterministic ordering is probably caused by driving both of these interfaces with the same USB controller chip. Try connecting one to a USB 2.0 port and one to a USB 3.0 port. See ...

Re: 828 problem with vocoders

That sounds like a CPU performance issue, probably compounded by a bug in the vocoder plugin where the buffer becomes larger every time the data isn't there on time, but without properly updating the plug-in latency in the audio unit graph so that the rest of the system knows that it is spending lon...

Re: The front panel of the Motu828es turns off, but the card continues to function!

If it is in any way motion sensitive, it could be a cable inside it that isn't fully plugged in. Failing that, it sounds like the controller CPU that manages the display and buttons is crashing. It could be something wrong with the CPU or something in the power supply that is causing it to supply di...

Re: Firewire 2024: Today's Macs and Sequoia?

To be clear: Thunderbolt supports most of the FireWire spec and that's why it works—although Intel owns TB, Apple developed it. If/when a future USB or other protocol is adopted that no longer supports most of Thunderbolt, then FW will no longer function. Thunderbolt doesn't directly support any of...
