I'm just joining the party. iMac Core 2 Duo running 10.4.7, MOTU 896HD interface. DP 5.1 crashes *constantly*. I have never, ever in my 10+ years as a sysadmin seen a program this unreliable. It's astounding that it got released in this state.

That's because they aren't there. It's a complete mystery to me why MOTU doesn't make their manuals available for download. I can only assume it's because they don't care about their customers.

I have it--version 3.5.3.2. PM me and I'll give you a download link.

EDIT: Actually, you can still download it from MOTU's site here:

Re: ADS

Hey John, I went looking at makers of FW cards with TI chipsets and while I was at the ADS site I found this link to fix 1394 issues with XP SP2. Not sure if you're aware of it but here it is.... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885222 Yes, I do know about that patch. It didn't fix the problem for m...

Re: 1394b

Does it matter which FW card I go with? MOTU says it matters. They say to use a FW card with a Texas Instruments chipset. http://www.motu.com/techsupport/technotes/document.2001-04-06.9305665162/ I tried it with an Adaptec card using an Agere chipset, and couldn't get the two 896's to sync. After I...

Re: AMD x2 w/ nVidia Chipset/Nuendo3.02/896HD

Anyway, I haven't heard anything negative in regards to MOTU You obviously haven't been here very long. Lots of bad things are constantly said about MOTU. Let me see if I can sum up: - MOTU Firewire on Windows is touchy at best. It wants certain FW chipsets and doesn't like Service Pack 2. I had to...

I'm usually eager to update drivers when new versions come out, but I had such a difficult time getting my 896HD's working that there's no way in hell I'm touching my config without a damn good reason. I just don't trust MOTU when it comes to Windows drivers. As far as I can tell, the new driver ver...

If you want fewer problems, use it with a Mac. There are a number of PC users that have problems when using multiple 896's. Having said that, I use a dual 896HD setup on my PC and it works fine, though it did take some time and frustration to get it all working.

Do you want to make music, or fight with your computer?

Not many companies are on the 64-bit Windows bandwagon yet. Best stay away from it for now unless you enjoy compatibility headaches.

I'm not suggesting that this is an authoritative answer, but I've seen a lot of discussion about this on various forums. Most--not all, but most--people say that anything over 96K is overkill, and doesn't help the sound. Dan Lavry, the guy behind Lavry converters, actively opposes sample rates above...

My understanding is that all the 896's should get their wordclock from whatever device you designate as the clock master in the MOTU Firewire Audio Console. For example, in my home setup, I clock to a Big Ben which is connected via wordclock to 896 #1. I set up 896 #1's Wordclock In as my clock sour...
