Ancient Kurzwell PC88MX - free, but broken... (RESOLVED)

Post by joelfriedman »

Hi List,

I have an ancient Kurzwell PC88MX that has (I think) finally given up the ghost. I am not sure what to do with it, beyond chucking it, which is a shame. I have had it fixed in the past at authorized dealers - it has/had an issue of one channel of internal sound audio not working - but now it doesn’t totally boot up anymore, just a bar of light. It could just be a battery issue (which as you know is a PITA to replace). But I only use it as a controller, it’s too big, and not fully featured so I’m going to replace it. If you are in the DMV and want to give it a new home so you can tinker with it, it is FREE. Obviously no guarantees, but it’s free. I just hate the idea to taking to our trash room and leaving it.

If it interests you, or anyone you know, please reply and we can figure out how to make the transfer.

Thanks!

Best,

Joel

Could be a battery and yes, a royal PITA to replace. I'm in SoCal or I'd take it and give it a shot. Def worth the effort.

Thanks MLC. I feel bad, but I'm not a pianist, I really only use it for input, and I am getting a newer, slimmer, controller. I inherited it and have used it for a l-o-n-g time.

Still hoping someone wants and can use it!

Best,

Joel

The PC88 is, indeed, pretty long in the tooth. I sold mine for $500 about 3 years ago. Pretty good return. I have a PC2/x now but my go to on the road is a lowly Korg. Audio in and out, great feel. Light weight. Great piano sound and other sounds. Not great as a controller, IMO. I have a new Roland on order with Bluetooth MIDI for my iPad but looks pretty good for the desktop as well.

My desktop controller is also a Roland (PCR-800 now discontinued) but a great controller.

If you’re in the DMV why don’t you take it up to Atomic in Beltsville Maryland they’ll take it off your hands

You could try Craigs List Free. I put old studio stuff there, and it's gone in a few hours to people thrilled to have it.
