Lewitt LCT-040 Match microphones

Post by Phil O »

A while back (on a whim - and an overwhelming need for some new gear) I ordered a matched pair of Lewitt LCT-040 SDC microphones for $189. They were back-ordered for quite some time but they just came in.

I must say I am quite impressed. Did a session today with acoustic guitar and used them in a spaced pair configuration. These perform like MUCH more expensive mics, sounding similar to my AKG 451b's but without the high end boost of the 451s - very natural sounding. I'm looking forward to trying them as as drum overheads.

Just thought I'd do a quick review.

Is this the complete model name? I'm doing a search and coming up with chocolate whey powder vendors, along with a load of Lewitt mics with model numbers that are very different. Where did you get them?

Thanks. Doesn't look like anyone around here sells them.

Thanks, Mike, for correcting my omission of "LTC" in the model number. I've edited the original post.

Sweetwater is my preferred vendor, but they don't carry Lewitt. I got them here:

Thanks Phil. I found a place in Canada that carries Lewitt but they don't carry this model. Although you have yours, B&H lists them as "coming soon".

I just got mine. I think it was last week some time. Perhaps B&H hasn't updated their web site yet. You might want to give them a call.

Looks like that's my only option. Lewitt's only Canadian dealer just dropped them.

When I click that link, B&H is the only hit. Presumably the only one that ships to here. And they're fine -- I've bought a load of stuff from them in the past.

I was using DuckDuckGo. Looks like it screened the hits for place that deliver to Canada, or more specifically, as it said, to Vancouver.

I recently got a deal on a Godin 5th Ave, and used the extra money on a pair of Rode NT5s. Assuming you have these too, would you say the Lewitts are better, worse, or just different for acoustic guitar? Presumably not the same.

I haven't had the opportunity to try the Rodes. The guitar I used the Lewitts on was a Taylor with phosphor bronze strings -very bright. I think I liked the Lewitts a little better (for that guitar) than the AKG 451b mics because the 451s can accentuate the highs a bit more and the Lewitts seemed a little warmer. I think mic selection is often instrument specific.

Then again there's always EQ. But, that's a story for another day.

A Taylor here too. I also found the Rodes de-emphasize the brightness, and that it sounds better to me if I record with them and add a tiny bit of brightness back in, rather than using an AT4033 and then using EQ to cut the brightness.

Performer specific, too. In some cases even more so.
