I agree; mastering is relatively cheap compared to recording and mixing, so it's worth getting at least two different takes to compare what different houses can deliver. And generally the a la carte pricing should be pretty good.
You might even end up keeping both masters and use them for different targets formats or audiences. For instance, since you plan to get the song used in a video, it isn't uncommon to have that version be mastered differently.
Best of luck with this project. Human Rights and Animal Rights are my two main causes, and they cross over all partisan concerns (which don't interest me).
I have several projects of my own in this category, but keep getting stuck at the mixing stage (so time-consuming when so many instruments are involved). But I'm a "nobody" so I don't have the inertia behind me that you do -- I am sure your project will achieve its intended goals and be a success.
