828x and adding 2nd stand alone ADAT procedure

Post by Raul Duke »

Hi all,
I successfully added a 8pre to my 828x previously and enjoyed the 16 channels but I've now outgrown that.
I had an older 828mkII that I wanted to add 8 more inputs via ADAT to the 828x to have 24 channels of input.

I see that under cue mix I have ADAT A 1-8 and ADAT B 1-8 the 8pre is still good but nothing from the 828mkII
I have it the 828mkII slaved to ADAT 44-48khz. I assume the 828x will be the Master ?
8pre is hooked up to 1st set of ADAT in & outs (ADAT optical in to out & outs to ins)
828mkII is connected to the 2nd set of ADAT in & outs (ADAT optical in to out & outs to ins)
are there more settings I need to make on the Cuemix making all channels mono on the 828mkII . I'm connected with thunderbolt on the 828x. It also seems like the older 828mkII is supposed to remember my settings but doesn't do I have to save a preset ?
Any help or point in the right direction for having
16 inputs via ADAT on the 828x most only describe adding one set of ADATs not 2
Thanks in advance,
Raul

The best way I know to get the 828mkII to remember settings is to turn it off before disconnecting.

Been a long time but let me see if I can remember the whole setup.. Keep in mind, CueMix on the mk2 only has 4 slots, so you either get 8 in or 8 out but not both at the same time.

Mix 1 - Analog 1/2 in to ADAT 1/2 out
Mix 2 - Analog 3/4 in to ADAT 3/4 out
Mix 3 - Analog 5/6 in to ADAT 5/6 out
Mix 4 - Analog 7/8 in to ADAT 7/8 out

Mono/stereo doesn't matter. Just remember, if you set them mono, make sure you pan them hard left and right. That was basically it. The mk2 should be remembering the settings too, so the might be an indicator something else is going on with it. They are getting pretty old now.

Yep. The last 828mkII was made in 2006—I bought one of those at a Guitar Center close-out sale January 2007 when the 828mk3 was announced at Winter NAMM. Damn, that was over seventeen years ago. All others are older.
