2408 MK II with FCA 1616 as ADAT master clock

Post by 2408user42 »

Just got a 2408 mk II for a great deal. I've set it up successfully as the master clock to a Behringer FCA 1616. The goal is to use a bunch of great analog preamps to Reaper DAW with FCA1616 as master clock. So far I'm not successful using it as a SLAVE to the FCA 1616 using ADAT cables. I cannot find the MK II manual online and I think that might help. Has anyone used the MK II 2408 as a SLAVE to the FCA1616 with ADAT cables?? Thanks

Figured this out with the help of a recording forum in facebook and trying several of the ADAT pairs. So I'll pay it forward in case anyone else has this issue. The FCA1616 documentation is correct for setting it as a master clock. The interesting part of the 2408 is 3 pairs of ADAT connections. I'm using the MOTU 2408 MkII to convert several nicer analog preamps to digital and pipe in my DAW from an FCA1616 as the master. The FCA1616 as slave was much easier to do. Now I've got both options with the 2408 Mk2. https://www.motunation.com/forum/postin ... =3&t=66008#

Problem #1 - MOTU doesn't make a 2408 Mk II manual available, no help there from the manufacturer. Thanks for nothing. https://www.motunation.com/forum/postin ... =3&t=66008# A facebook group helped me and gave me a link to a German version of the manual provided by a 3rd party. I used google translate to understand the usage and settings in standalone mode (chapter 7). https://www.motunation.com/forum/postin ... =3&t=66008#

Problem #2 - the MOTU has 3 pairs of ADAT connections. Which one to use? Use pair A for synchronizing with the FCA1616. Not pair B or C. I could not get the ADAT clocks to synch until pair A was used.

Problem #3 - which Clock setting on the MOTU 2408? Use SRC, not EXT, for slave mode. Once I switched from EXT to SRC on PAIR A of the ADAT connections it started working.

Now my 2408 MkII is a slave to the FCA1616 master clock. https://www.motunation.com/forum/postin ... =3&t=66008#
