Well, specs don't really have a whole lot of bearing on the overall sound. MOTU will, however, send you them if you email them. Between those interfaces the RME will probably sound the best (although it hasn't actually been released, it is supposed to based on their multiface which is a solid unit, ...

well, as far as I know the saffire 26 hasn't been released, so you can't get one just yet. Sweetwater does list it but i don't believe it has shipped. The saffire will probably have better preamps, along with the effects plugins and 8 more channels of adat. It lacks aes/ebu i/o and smpte sync, neith...

I remember hearing that using an hdd on the 800 along with an interface on the 400 has caused problems for some people. As for chaining, usually its best to chain through the interface (connect drive to interface; interface to computer), however you could probably connect the interface to the drive ...

I'm sure the onyx pres sound much better than what is in the ultralite (although if you had time to do a quick comparison any feedback would be appreciated by plenty of people). However what I am wondering is if the pres on the ultralite are only able to provide +24db of gain, which doesn't seem lik...

Nice job taking the thing apart. Some research shows that the AKM4620A is the best-specced single chip codec AKM makes, however some of their discrete DACs and ADCs are supposedly better. I'm guessing that the traveler and 828 use different converters from the ultralite, based on this, but it would ...

motu ultralite preamps

I've been following the discussions here of the new ultralite. It looks like a nice piece, however its a little unclear as to what the actual gain range on the preamps is. MOTU states 60db range through use of a 3way pad and 24db adjustable. So it looks like the pres go from -36 to +24. Can someone ...

I've been looking at the ultralite as well, but I have been wondering what is the actual range on the preamps? MOTU's site is a little unclear. they list 60db gain range but only 24db adjustable in 1db increments. does this mean that they only go up to +24? Or does the 3-way switch set fixed boost? ...

That sound is what you get when jack is running at a different sample rate than programs plugged into it. It defaults to 48k, try changing it in preferences to 44.1. Also make sure you are making connections right (click source, double click target, do the same thing to break connection).

Try soundflower (http://www.cycling74.com/products/soundflower) or Jack OSX (http://www.jackosx.com/). Both are audio drivers which allow you to route things around. If you set up soundflower as the output for any program, that program's output will go to anything set to use soundflower as input. Th...
