I'm curious about this interface - how does it compare to the MOTU firewire units in terms of cpu use/latency? (I only see digi hardware in your sig so maybe you don't know).

Also how are the pres?

If I were you I would open Activity monitor (under utils in applications) and check how much free memory you have when this problem occurs. If your RAM isn't full I doubt running out of memory is the problem. While 768 is on the low side my machine has 1.5 gig and almost never sees even 1 gig used. ...

The travelers pres do only go to +53, at which point they are certainly rather noisy. Because of the 20db pad MOTU lists 73db range. Similarly, the actual gain on the pres of the ultralite is ambiguous. It sounds like it might be only 24db but I did email MOTU asking for specs once and they said the...

I think that the konnekt just started shipping a few weeks ago, so that's why there isn't a whole lot of info. I'm curious about it myself, though.

As far as I know, a class D amp switches on and off rapidly at a certain frequency (usually in the mhz range, I believe). If you were to "zoom out" from this back to the audio range the little ons and offs would combine into the waveform you're looking for. Its a little like how PWM works ...

I was thinking of buying an ultralite and emailed motu asking them specifically what the max gain was on this unit and they said 46db (which doesn't really make sense). I asked them how this was achieved and they were kind of evasive, but then various people on the boards have said that it does have...

Well, from my perspective I've got a 15" PB and have plenty of screen room most of the time. IMO the portability difference between the 15 and 17 is worth it. Mine is the later high-res model, which helps (the MBPs have about the same resolution). I think I would have a hard time with anything ...

You need the wmv codecs, aka flip4mac. I just tried the imovie suggestion since so many people seem to be asking and it did work. You still get the watermark-think unless you buy the upgraded version of flip but it works.

I found someone with qt pro who did it for me- you can import wmv (and save as another format) with the free flip4mac (wmv codecs for qt), you just get a watermark, which isn't a problem in this situation. Good idea on imovie, I'll try that next time. Frodo - I think what you have found is talking a...

I just dealt with the same problem. If you download flip4mac (windows media codecs for quicktime) you'll be able to import wmv into quicktime to save as a different format (with quicktime pro). If you use the free version of flip4mac the file will have a transparent overlay of "created with fli...

importing windows media video

Someone gave me a video to score in windows media video format. Is there any way to import this to score in dp without buying the "pro" flip4mac and/or quicktime pro (or anything)? I'm looking at mencoder but can't find info on whether it will encode to something quicktime compatible.

I wouldn't worry too much about the HD speed. Unless you're recording/playing back a lot of stuff from the disk you won't see much of a difference. I've got a 5400 in my powerbook which can record plenty of tracks, and that doesn't even sound like what you're doing. Besides, the speed difference bet...

Yes this sucks. There is a sort-of workaround, which involves connecting your s/pdif out to in, choosing s/pdif out as your software's output, then using cuemix to route s/pdif in to the main outs. You can then control the volume via that mix bus in cuemix. If you aren't already using your s/pdif it...

I don't know much about the windows side of things, but you can usually use multiple interfaces on a mac through the aggregate device feature. Beyond actually using them simultaneously, which is a driver issue, you shouldn't have trouble with using them on the same bus, and may be able to use the co...
