Except for media that has gone bad (CDRs, DVDs) I have never lost a single DP file that I couldn't revive one way or another. My studio burned down one hot October morn. I needed the version of Auto Save that dials the Fire Department. It wasn't installed, so I grabbed my CD and DVD backups and use...

I have been using the 150gb 16mb cache Raptor on the internal SATA bus of a Quad G5 without any trouble since January. I use it as an audio drive, not a boot drive. I also have a PCIe Hi Point card hooked up to several external 76gb Raptors working fine. Reading the WD report referenced in this foru...

At the risk of pushing further afield Frodo's nominally OT exploration, and in response to Timeline's comment re: NCQ, take a look here: http://storagereview.com/articles/200601/WD1500ADFD_8.html In addition to a discussion of NCQ's negative impact on single user performance for most drives, Storage...

I, too, found the Waves plug count interesting, particularly in light of a discussion we were having in this forum a while back... I recall a gentleman who professed to have superior knowledge of hardware stating the Quad was essentially a waste of money because bus bottlenecks severely choke the ad...

Now is the time my PPC Quad G5 is feeling mighty comfortable, and plenty powerful. DP 5.01 is running smoothly. All the plugs I need are at my beck and call. My plan: Ignore the subliminal urging of technolust and simply be musically productive for a while. Someday I••™ll have to make the move...

A few points on insurance, with a final note on loss-prevention: Homeowners/Renters policies limit coverage for loss to property used or intended for use in a business of the insured. Typlical limit: $1k on premises, less off premises. Note the possible COMPUTERs exception to this limit, below. I ha...

10.4.7 seems to be working splendidly with DP5.01... ran DP hard today on a fairly complex mix without a single crash. One hung MIOI note (probably due to kitten crawling around on my MOTIF) was easlily quieted with a DP Notes Off message. 10.4.6 was running pretty well after a lot of troublshooting...

Rainmaker: From the TUNE Manual: Please note that Tune does not support tempo changes. You may encounter unexpected results if used within a tempo changed timeline. Remember, the timeline will be limited to ten minutes, after which pitch detection will stop. I found this in the manual after encounte...

I, too, like Waves Tune, having used the Lite version that Waves added to its GOLD package recently. However, one big problem with Waves Tune (both standard and lite versions) is that it DOES NOT TRACK ACROSS TEMPO CHANGES. This is not a problem if a song is straight tempo thruought, but a deal-brea...

I agree with Kinny's take on system purchases. I plan on hanging on to the Quad for a number of years. When amortized over this period, and after factoring in the sheer number of man hours I spend working with the machine, an even nominal speed boost is well worth the extra bucks. I have certainly e...

I'm enjoying the Quad horsepower. The machine has been very stable (except with DP 5.0 and 5.01 until I fixed a plug in compatibility issue with Auto Tune). I have also been using a 1.9 Dual G5 at another studio, and the difference is huge. Part of this is, I'm sure, disc access, but I'm getting the...
