Re: Opinions: Song contest rules unfair?

>except where prohibited by law.< Not being a lawyer, I will not comment exceot to say that a Copyright attorney should have no problem seeing that many of the terms of the agreement are prohibited by the Copyright law. Even if they were to control your mechanical rights, you would still be entitled...

Re: My album is going to press!!!

How are you going to be paid if someone wants to cover your work, use it in a film or play it on radio, TV or the internet? Or is getting paid unimportant (if so, don't read the following)? If you aren't a member of a PRO (ASCAP, BMI or SESAC in the USA), do a publisher name search and get the proce...

>Even if they objected, I doubt they'd get a court to hear them if you did what the law suggests< Compulsory licensing is just what it implies: You are imposing a license on the publisher by paying the statutory royalty and notifying by certified letter. The provision for this is in the Copyright la...

Re: What MOTU audio interface to choose?

I would agree that two of the 8pre is probably the best. $1,100 anywhere. Next best - and a little less expensive is one 8pre and one used 828 MkII Firewire. You could make do with two of the 828 MkII FW (or MkIII but that would blow your budget). A pair of Travelers would work nicely - or one and a...

Re: Connecting an 8Pre (Firewire) to an older MOTU 1224

No. That won't work but here's what will (and it won't cost any more): Find a 2408 expansion module (no PCI card) and use it to take the ADAT out from the 8pre into your computer. A MkI will work just fine if you have a 324 or 424 card - I see these all the time for $100 now. That same 2408 can be u...

Re: Can You Recommend a DP Compatible Inexpensive Audio i/o

The Mackie U420 should work. $199 at Musicians Friend. Wow... says it's discontinued now. What the heck? It wasn't when I posted but it is now. In any case, they still have the U.420d which is more versatile anyway for $249. It is also marked Clearance but they still have some in stock. This versio...

Re: Is there a bug in MOTU Audio Setup?

I have to set my inputs in Core Audio and again in Digital Performer for them to set up correctly. If there is a more efficient way, I have never bothered to find it. Also. the outputs need to match - I can't bring audio in through the 828 and out through the optical ports on my G5. Maybe there's a ...

Re: mac g5 and pci 424x probs

Are you positive that you have a PCIx (two notches) card and not the older PCI (one notch)?

If your G5 has 4 memory slots, you can use either PCI or PCIx. If you have 8 memory slots, PCIx only (except the last G5s that took PCIe only)

Does your computer boot when the card is removed?

My guess - and it is only a guess - is that, since AudioDesk wants to own your MOTU hardware, it doesn't want to share it with Cubase.

Re: Your Studio's payment policy... how long do you wait?

Are you a member of ASCAP, BMI or SESAC? If not a member of one of the three performing rights organizations (PROs), why not? You have been performed. Someone should be looking out for your rights. That's what the PROs do. If you have not filed the Copyright certificates, technically, you can't sue ...

Re: Apogee Duet and Crackling Problem

You don't say how large the drives are. I am betting that using two 1T - 2T internal drives will solve your problems for a lot less money than going the eSATA route.

Two 1T drives can be had for $160, two 1.5T is $272 and two 2T would run you $456.

Re: Mac Pro: 5th Internal SATA Drive using no extra parts

>But I wanted an internal drive, and my four internal bays are full. What to do? <

Get rid of all the small drives and consolidate everything onto a 1.5T or 2T drive. With Time machine, running a bunch of small drives is no longer necessary.
