Re: Another returning to the Mac thread...

If you're going to use the MIDI interfaces, then yes you will need to install that as well. The Firewire driver handles the built in MIDI ports on the Ultralite (my 828x, and 828MK2, etc had them), but the Microlite/MIDI Express still need their driver too. MOTU doesn't support it officially but so ...

Re: Another returning to the Mac thread...

The driver works fine on Sonoma (14.4 even). Knowing MOTU, they won't update it to say 14 works until MacOS 15 comes out. I'm running my 828x in Cubase 13 almost every day without issue. For the 2010, FW is probably better than the slower USB in that thing. For the other two, Thunderbolt->Firewire a...

Re: Latest macOS update killed drivers?

828x/old driver still working fine in 14.4.. In fact all weekend, my MOTU actually connected every time I turned it on without having to replug it 4-5 times, hopefully that wasn't just luck..

Re: A bit of advice for an old system please

Yeah that Mac aint gonna work with TB anything no matter how you convert it. When I had my 2010 Pro, that thing was rock solid over USB. Nowadays on my M2 Pro Mini, I have to unplug the thing a few times before the computer decides to recognize it.

Re: 828es inserts accessible via DAW?

Nope. They cut the signal going into the interface completely and 'send it out'. If you use the sends, you need to return it using another analog input and capture it that way.

After the last update mine starts like that every time, but a few seconds after it opens it 'refreshes' and starts connecting and finding everything.

Re: Is there a thunderbolt 4 to FireWire adapter for Motu HD896 units?

Nope, you've gotta go Apple FW to TB2 adapter, and then TB2 to TB3 adapter. It's about $100 or so just to connect one of the older FW units to a TB Mac. Apple was done with Firewire for good by the time TB3 came out, and those adapters never got an 'updated' TB3 version. Nowadays you have to go thro...

Re: My Unisyn Machine (MacMini + Snow Leopard) unreliable MIDI communication

Hmmmmm I’m pretty sure my iBook G4 was running Snow Leopard. It’s very much dead. Doesn’t try to read the drive. No light comes on. Snow Leopard was originally both PPC and Intel (Apple thought about giving the G5 users a bone) but it was killed long before release. Snow Leopard is the first Intel ...

Re: Anyone heard of this Kuycon monitor? To good to be true?

I asked because looking on Amazon, there are quite a few 5K monitors in the price range, mostly 32”, including an LG for C$1099. And, once you go to a monitor that small (27”) is there much advantage to 5K over a lower resolution? Really the ONLY reason for a display that small at that high of a re...

Re: PET PEEVE: macOS "forgets" Wallpaper pictures sometimes?

You actually shut your Mac down every day? It's been decades since I've done that. These things stay running 24/7 and only reboot/shut down when an install forces it.. Nowadays with two M2 Mac Mini's in the house, we actually had a -$58 electric bill this month. :D Yes I do. Total weirdo, right? Ap...

Re: Daisy chain two 828 originals

Perhaps I should have said they don’t have mix buses rather than Cuemix. Don’t remember them having any analog to ADAT routing. Its been ages since I used mine (I bought it on release and sold it the day the Mk2 was in stock at the Sam Ash), but it was rather limited in its routing compared to ever...

Re: Interesting Video: Why Apple TB4 Cable is $130

Has anyone tried an older MIDI interface such as an MTP-AV USB through a current AS Mac's USB-C port? I've been too busy to hook up mine. The reason I ask is because those operate over USB 1.1. Would a hub make any difference? I'd need a 20 foot cable to test it directly as its a bit away from the ...

Re: Upgrade from Mac Mini i7

From what I've read on the M3s so far, they might not be that much of a jump over the M2's yet. The M2 Pro MacBooks might be a little cheaper now that the new ones are out too. I went from the 2018 i7 Mini to the M2 Pro Mini a few months ago and no complaints here. I don't use anywhere near that man...

Re: MOTU Legacy System Extension

It can occur even if no hardware drivers are installed. I found this out just last week after installing DP onto my wife’s 2020 iMac to check another issue. I haven't seen it in awhile (I'm assuming they updated whatever it was), but I used to get the same message from some component with VirtualBo...
