A conversation with composer Howard Shore
Hello Everyone, long time no visit ( I do get to lurk very briefly every so often...) Wanted to share here a conversation that music journalist/author Doug Adams and I recently had with triple Academy-Award-winner Howard Shore , at an event here at Columbia College Chicago's Music Composition for th...

Re: Slate Digital (for free plug-ins)??
It's also a way to get those who are short on cash to do the right thing. It's not a coincidence he compares the cost of the monthly subscription to the cost of a pizza... He knows that most of the people using cracks are people who really *are* short on cash, many are young, and simply can't resist...

Re: Slate Digital (for free plug-ins)??
Baffled by the negativity... :? It's a great addition to their offerings. It simply adds the ability to rent the entire line for $20 a month (or $24 a month without the reverb), which includes a rebate of about $8 (or $16) per month toward the purchase price, if you rent for more than 12 months - an...

Re: Digital Performer audio engine resolution!
Well, if I understand this correctly, seems like the issue here is audio processing - where higher resolution makes a whole lot of sense (just like it makes a lot of sense to work in 24 bits when you want to end up with a 16 bit CD, or to process using 32bit float when you want to print 24bit fixed....

Re: Digital Performer audio engine resolution!
How does 64bit float divvy up the bits? AFAIK, 32bit float is 24bit words with an 8bit "scaler". Resulting dynamic range is pretty spectacular.
So how is 64bit float put together?

Re: scoring for film... courses?
Where are you located? Lots of good programs - Berklee film scoring dept. that Fernando mentioned is led by my pal George S Clinton, located in Boston. Columbia College in Chicago has a great graduate only program, led by my former mentor and dear friend David McHugh (and for what it's worth, I most...

Re: MOTU 8 PRE & SPL MIxDream and LOgic
Analog summing is one of those things - sounds great if the source material sounds great. How great does any source material sound? As great as the converters used before the summing stage. So, unless you have 16 outstanding Digital-to-Analog converters, you are better off mixing in the box. I'd alw...

New fuzz-boxed, steam-driven album "INN PARADISO"
My new album is out! Now available on iTunes etc., INN PARADISO is thickly layered music played by multitudes, fuzz-boxed folklore from a people not yet discovered. Electronic, acoustic and steam-driven, all at the same time. All created in DP, of course! What is it? Here are some liner notes, a sho...

Re: My Mac just restarted itself!?!
So far for me it's always been fixed permanently by changing the Lithium battery on my MacPro 3,1 - well, permanently until the battery gets weak again. Maybe once every 18-24 months or so?
I also generally clean dust from the air intakes, fan etc. once I'm in there. Always a good idea.

Re: Kramer Master Tape
FG-X was another Waves-killer for me. It's incredibly, insanely good, and instantly retired my trusty L3. Personally, I just much prefer the way it sounds. Again YMMV... :D :D :D Since it's definitely a master-buss processor mostly it's not such a big deal for me that it's not 64bit yet - I print th...

Re: Kramer Master Tape
Just to play the yang to everyone's yin here, once I got VTM I stopped using Kramer altogether.
Now, for $29 it's still a nice fuzzbox, but for me it's just not comparable to the "tapeness" of VTM. YMMV.

Re: How do you merge 2 separate projects with their own trac
You can drag a chunk from the Chunks window to the left side of the Tracks window. That will copy all the tracks and data from Chunk A to chunk B. Dave What Dave said! I do this all the time: Open one project, import a sequence from another using the Load command, then drag the imported sequence fr...

Re: Wow - No Brainer Deal on MH ChannelStrip $30
Two different, unrelated things being talked about here: 1. Redemption code means that the software manufacturer no longer needs to know your iLok handle to send you a license. They send you a redepmtion code that you use to redeem your license using the iLok manager software. (This is what I was re...
