Re: MOTU 16A Recurring Hardware Problem: Low Power Detected Rebooting

Yes, $30 availability is amazing. The manuals on these AVB units say leave empty rack space above and below and they mean it. I had to run one at a live event for an hour with no space in a rack, and the heat was terrifying. Cap killer for sure. Oh crap, really? I’ll have to pull my beloved Eleven ...

Re: MOTU 16A Recurring Hardware Problem: Low Power Detected Rebooting

Thanks to you all for your responses. Just curious, question for nk_e or anyone else who has this particular problem repaired: Were the capacitors replaced in the power supply failed due to having inadequate voltage, temperature, or reliability ratings or was the failure due to some other underlyin...

Re: MOTU 16A Recurring Hardware Problem: Low Power Detected Rebooting

FWIW, mine began rebooting continuously (the “wave” pattern on the LCD going back and forth). There was a quiet ‘click’ that would occur during the process. This would happen every so often, then started happening more and more. Eventually it wouldn’t boot. A trip to a repair shop revealed that a nu...

Re: Waves by Subscription

I predict Native Instruments is next in line to give it a serious go expanding their current toe in the water Komplete Now concept with more tiers. iZotope will also more aggressively push / expand their “producer’s club” or whatever they call it too I bet.

Re: Waves by Subscription

I'm gonna give this whole issue a few months and then it will have blown over and everyone will find some other relatively insignificant issue to argue about. And it IS insignificant. With all the problems in the world, this Waves thing is hardly worth getting worked up over. But I suppose people f...

Re: Waves by Subscription

Great summation James. In case this helps anyone: Waves Software - How To Get The Latest Version There have been a number of people concerned that with the release of Waves Creative Access, it is no longer possible to upgrade your Waves plugins to the latest version. It is possible, and in this arti...

Re: Waves by Subscription

I hear ya' Dave. I just think a lot of folks would have liked Waves to at least let them know in advance of the forthcoming changes so they could make a decision - like the one you just made to subscribe - armed with reasonable information. That's a key point for me. I too just spent $254 with tax....

Re: Waves by Subscription

A haiku from ChatGPT:

Waves.com, you wave,
Greedy tides rise up with glee,
Subs prices too high.

Re: Waves by Subscription

I own a lot of Waves plugins. However, there are lots of alternatives available these days. Overtime, the number of Waves plugins I use has declined. Clarity VX Pro is amazing and the one that I use regularly however. Now to get access to that plugin, I have to pay $250 a year. Creates quite a marke...

Re: Waves by Subscription

My guess is they will retain a purchase and “sales events” model and offer subscription tiers also (similar to plugin alliance).

<SNIP> So much to think about for so little to no financial renumeration. hahaha. This is why you sort of get what you get with these types of forums. They are indeed a labor of love. Many a time I have somewhat defensively responded to criticism by suggesting that those who have a problem with use...

Re: More consolidation: Image-Line acquires UVI

I had some experience with some aspects of this debate when working at a large corporation looking at various system alternatives being considered for front line organizations. Talking to a lot of vendors, developers, users, and going to no end of IT conferences, etc. I saw two basic camps. One cam...

Re: More consolidation: Image-Line acquires UVI

FWIW, Image-Line also has owned Melda Productions for a while. I take that as a good sign because they have really left them alone to do their own thing.

Re: Where to get repairs done?

Hey. Following. FWIW: Had a very similar thing happen with my 16a and 1248. Each was less than 4 years old. My 16a acted just like yours it seems. MOTU wouldn’t touch them so I found a local synth repair shop. The 16a had a couple of bad capacitors and could be repaired. The 1248 was a total loss. I...
